Pro Plan Veterinary Diets cat range
PRO PLAN

Unfortunately, our Pro Plan Supplements range in the UK has been discontinued.

While we know that pet owners will be disappointed by this news, Pro Plan’s longer-standing FortiFlora™ and Hydra Care™ products are still available and we are, of course, continuing to supply our full range of Purina Pro Plan main meal diets. You will still continue to find Pro Plan Supplements over the coming months on various Pet retailer sites until the product is no longer available.

But the good news is that there are many products across the Purina range and beyond, that support a wide variety of conditions in pets and which you can transition onto. For help and advice making any switch, I’d suggest you give Purina a call on 0800 212161, or speak to your vet.

Supplements helps you to customise your pet’s diet to add extra benefits. Complete and balanced main meal products do bring all the essential nutrition a pet needs. However, supplements can help you to provide additional support, to help meet specific needs particularly important to you or your pet as much as you possibly can. They are also convenient, avoiding the need to change to another petfood, which could interfere with your pet’s feeding routine. For example, if concerned about a dull or dry coat, adding Skin & Coat + supplements for dogs and cats to the daily diet can start to help improve glossiness. If wishing to maximise support for a healthy immune system, adding Natural Defences + dog and cat supplements can be ideal to help achieve this.

It is highly likely. We have run internal studies which have demonstrated a great taste in the dogs and cats who tried the products. The average acceptance for the entire range was 97%.

To provide the best ingredients for the desired benefit, we have selected the most appropriate product form to complement the targeted formulation.

  • Hero ingredients that are naturally an oil are provided in an oil format.
  • Tablets for dogs were chosen to deliver the active ingredients for ease of directly feeding to your pet.
  • A powder format is ideal to enable direct administration to the food (particularly in cats) and is generally well accepted by pets.

We would recommend feeding the pet supplement alongside the meal, particularly to make it easier and more convenient to administer. However if an owner wishes to feed the supplement separate to the main meal (particularly if wishing to give the tablets as a treat) then this is fine.

If feeding guidelines are followed the supplements should not give a pet 'too much' in the way of any nutrients. Our supplements provide an additional source of nutrition when combined with a complete and balanced diet. They are formulated to bring both safe levels of nutrients and beneficial levels when administered at the recommended amount. If you have any concerns, however, consult your vet.

As with almost all supplement, it is important to be aware that some nutrients can have adverse consequences if they are ingested in excess of the feeding guideline. In particular, if too many omega 3 fatty acids in fish oils are given then they could cause an intestinal upset. Omega-3s are highly present in the Relax + and in the Skin & Coat +, thus should not be used together and feeding guides should be followed.

Yes, provided only one oil supplement is included in this combination with a powder or tablet supplement. We do not recommend combining the two oil supplements (Relax + and Skin & Coat +) as both provide a high amount of omega-3 fatty acids and could upset the stomach. All the other supplements can be combined.

If you pet has been diagnosed with a medical condition or disease state, then we recommend you talk to your veterinarian to determine what pet supplements may or may not be right for your pet, or will safely complement their current management.

All PRO PLAN® pet supplements are intended to be fed to the pet daily to receive the desired benefits. Generally, maximum benefit should be effective after a couple of months.

Mobility + and Natural Defences + supplements for cats and dogs: It may take up to 4 weeks for you to see a visible effect on mobility. For immunity benefits in immune parameters were measured after 12 weeks of supplementation, but these benefits could have been present earlier.

Skin & Coat + supplements for cats and dogs should be used daily and may take several weeks or months for a gradual benefit to be observed, as skin and other cells take time to incorporate these additional nutrients to supported the targeted benefit.

Relax + should be used for several months with administration on a continuous basis. Best effects were proven after 3 months in a study conducted.

It is important to remember that benefits take time to appear and regular daily use is necessary. Each pet is different and will react differently.

Pregnant and lactating dogs and cats have additional nutritional needs and caloric requirements. These products have not been formulated for pets while pregnant or lactating. If your pet becomes pregnant while taking the supplement, please consult with your veterinarian to determine if the administered amount is appropriate, should be adjusted or temporarily discontinued. It is safer to take your bitches'/queens' weight before pregnancy and ensure you follow feeding guidelines for this weight (not increase based on any weight they may gain during pregnancy).
Any concern, stop giving or speak to your vet.

Cats and dogs have a variety of unique nutritional requirements, but do also share many similarities in both nutrient and metabolic processes. Because of their differences in nutritional needs, it is then important to provide the appropriate product and administer based on the recommended feeding guidelines.
Note that PRO PLAN® Skin & Coat + DOG and CAT have the same recipe and could in theory be used for both cat and dog. However the cat feeding guidelines per body weight differs from the dog feeding guideline. The species feeding guideline must be followed.

No ingredients from beef or pork origin are used in our recipes.

Our pet supplement products are formulated to be safe and beneficial for your pet when administered at the recommended amount. However, it is important to be aware that some nutrients have ingestion levels that should not be exceeded.

Feeding guidelines must be respected. If you are concerned, consult your vet.
But in cases of feeding guidelines being slightly increased (e.g. doubling the dose for one day), do not provide the following day and re-start as normal again afterwards.

For the pet supplements in a tablet or powder form there should be no adverse impacts if an amount over the advised feeding guide is ingested.

If an entire pack of any supplement is ingested you should consult your vet promptly.

Puppies and kittens have additional needs and caloric requirements. The feeding guidelines of these products have not been established for puppies and kitten. Discuss with your veterinarian if you want to start supplementing to determine whether it could be of benefit and to determine the right amount to give.
PRO PLAN® Forti Flora has been shown to be safe for use in puppies and kitten.

Please refer to the composition lists of the individual products to determine whether any specific ingredient a pet is thought to be allergic to is included. If so they should be avoided. Our ingredients are not hydrolysed (which can help to reduce the likelihood of an adverse food reaction).
If in doubt, we recommend discussing with your vet before starting on any supplement.

If your pet has been diagnosed with a medical condition or disease state, then we recommend you talk to your pet’s veterinarian to determine what supplements may or may not be right for your pet, or will safely complement their medicine. Pet supplements are designed to support health but are not a replacement for a medication so you should not stop giving any medications you have been prescribed.
