Let's meet Morris
Anatolian Shepherd Dog & Alaskan Malamute, 2 years old
He came from Wild at Heart Foundation .
My favourite thing about Morris is...
Morris is a striking dog with tri-colour agouti markings and a lemur like tail. He often gets comments about how beautiful and unique he looks. He is quite an independent dog and has funny little quirks in his personality, I think he's almost more like a cat than a dog sometimes. But he will always curl up on your legs in the evening and loves coming anywhere with us for an adventure.
The biggest challenge with Morris is...
Despite being almost too confident in some situations, he still has a little reactivity at times which is taking a lot of training and consistency. We haven't quite got to the point where he completely trusts us when faced with scary situations. This means he can get spooked by situations, such as men who look like they could be a delivery man.
The most surprising thing about owning a Anatolian Shepherd Dog & Alaskan Malamute is...
They are very intelligent, but it needs harnessing otherwise they can quite easily outwit you! They also shed a lot of fur and need a lot of brushing despite having a medium coat. They may not show you affection by wanting a fuss all the time but they definitely show it to you in their own way, and that makes it extra special.
What I wish I’d known about Anatolian Shepherd Dogs & Alaskan Malamutes is...
They require a lot of attention. Half the time Morris is stood staring at me asking 'what's next'. Without the right level of mental and physical stimulation their breed related qualities, such as guarding and hearding come out much more. With a rescue the key is to really focus on building trust from the very start. This makes everything else much easier.
