Say Hello to Margot
Basset Griffon Vendeen (Grand), 2 years old
My favourite thing about Margot is...
That she is such a happy dog and as long as she is with her human all is good in her world. She can be left con her own for an hour or two and the welcome back is just the best.
The biggest challenge with Margot is...
That she can have a high prey drive. We have worked hard on her recall and she’s really obedient…. but she’s a hound after all.
The most surprising thing about owning a Basset Griffon Vendeen (Grand) is...
Their ability to see things that humans don’t - like that tiny fly on the cupboard door. Their scenting ability is amazing.
What I wish I’d known about Basset Griffon Vendeens (Grand) is...
To never forget they are a hound. Margot is our third and our first two often disappeared for hours on a scent
Did you know?
The Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen was developed for hunting wild boar, but also for hunting hare, on foot rather than from horseback. These low-slung hounds could follow a hare (who tend to run in large circles) until the hare gave up and tried to hide by squatting in the undergrowth.
