Get to know Wilsie Woo
Border Collie, 9 years old
He came from Clymping Dog Sanctuary .
My favourite thing about Wilsie Woo is...
His unique character. He chooses our walks, where we go each day, sometimes it's the Nature Reserve, sometimes the Park. I follow. I also love seeing him enjoy water, he loves nothing better than swimming and splashing around in the local brook or visiting the Seaside. I love the pure joy he experiences in such simple things and the way I have seen him change and grow in confidence over time.
The biggest challenge with Wilsie Woo is...
When he came to me a six year old Wilsie wasn't socialised and was very reactive with other dogs, and fearful of people and a bit bitey. Time and patience has changed this, along with gentle kindness based training. This has allowed him to grow in confidence. We now have a dog that can come away with us on holiday and enjoy meals out. He does however, still need to wear a muzzle at the vets.
The most surprising thing about owning a Border Collie is...
How bossy they are, and how amazingly clever. Also they are very sensitive and have long memories.
What I wish I’d known about Border Collies is...
I am a very experienced Collie owner having had one most of my life, and also working in a Veterinary surgery I see Collies on a frequent basis. They are not dogs for a beginner. They need time and patience. They need brain work as well as exercise. Wilsie is bossy and will even dictate which coat I wear when walking him...truly! Brown coat allowed...will walk, red coat not allowed...won't walk.
