Meet Magpie
Boston Terrier, 2 years old
My favourite thing about Magpie is...
Her super affectionate personality, she is confident without being bossy, lives happily with our cats, and wants to be involved with everything we do. She is friendly with visitors to our home. As a puppy she was very easy to train (much easier than my previous Boxer), but this little breed does have some of the funny, goofy Boxer traits that we love so much.
The biggest challenge with Magpie is...
She's greedy! She responded very well to training with small treats or pieces of cheese, but does look for them every time she does anything she's asked, no matter how slight it is. She stares hard at you when you are eating anything, in the hope you won't be able to resist the big eyes! This means we have to watch her waistline.
The most surprising thing about owning a Boston Terrier is...
Their level of energy, given they are a small dog. They will keep up with bigger dogs on a long walk, and come back for more (but not in hot weather please).
What I wish I’d known about Boston Terriers is...
They can be prone to skin problems. Magpie does get itchy and a pink belly from about April onwards, but this is helped by giving Piriton (always check the dosage with your Vet). I had the same thing with both of my previous Boxers, to be fair, but I do see other Boston owners ask about this on the Boston Terrier Facebook page.
