Say Hi to Alfie
Chihuahua (Smooth Coat), 10 years old
My favourite thing about Alfie is...
His hatred of postmen - even ripping up any letter that comes through the door! His loyalty; he will not let anyone near you when you're holding him. His hatred of vets (no local vets will cut his claws; the last vet had to sell me some cutters), his love of mothering baby chickens and licking them, he’s at the door waiting for you when he hears your car pull up and he knows when you're feeling sad and licks you.
The biggest challenge with Alfie is...
Not biting the vet, getting out a warm bed in the morning, not chasing after people on bikes or ambulances with sirens on, barking if his food or water is not within an inch of him, not letting workmen in the house, refusing walks when raining, wanting to sit on your lap and drive the minute you get in ca,r ignoring you and going back to bed if you give him food he doesn’t like.
The most surprising thing about owning a Chihuahua (Smooth Coat) is...
He would protect you with his life; he's faithful, will sit on your knee all day and want mothering, and is a good companion to someone living on your own. He's a very fussy eater but doesn't cost much to feed, no grooming costs, but gets grumpy with you if leave him on his own a long time and will ignore you when you come back. He's easy to carry around and sits on your knee and keeps you warm.
What I wish I’d known about Chihuahuas (Smooth Coat) is...
They shed their coats, don’t always like clothes on to keep them warm, like refusing to walk and should be walked with a harness not a collar, but try telling them - they always pick their walks and only head in the direction they want to go, sitting down and refusing to walk if you pick the direction. They demand your love and attention!
Did you know?
Chihuahuas shiver a lot, but that doesn’t always mean they’re cold, they also do it when they’re excited or scared too!
