Say Hello to Luna
Dachshund (Miniature Wire-Haired), 4 years old
Luna is owned by Martina, Purina's Brand Experience Lead.
My favourite thing about Luna is...
Life definitely bends to Luna's will! She's whip smart and such a character. I'm always amazed at how she lets me know exactly what she's thinking and how quickly she learns new things. Her favourite way to show (or demand!) affection is to climb into my arms and aggressively nudge her head under my chin whilst making unladylike little grunts.
The biggest challenge with Luna is...
Luna seems to love and hate in equal measure, which can make for colourful social interactions! Her behaviour is something I watch closely as she can be quite reactive. She's definitely a breed that likes to please herself first; their prey drive shouldn't be underestimated! If she smells a squirrel, all bets are off.
The most surprising thing about owning a Dachshund (Miniature Wire-Haired) is...
Don't be fooled by their size; Luna is a super active dog and I love watching her come alive on big wild walks. Seeing her use her nose and bounding through the countryside is so rewarding! Understanding her breed's needs has been really important for us - we play a lot of sniffing games at home to keep her engaged.
What I wish I’d known about Dachshunds (Miniature Wire-Haired) is...
How important socialisation is early on; I think dachshunds can be quite reactive and single-person focused if you don't get this right. They're also not the best breed to leave on their own and dealing with separation anxiety can be really stressful.
Did you know?
Dachshunds are tenacious, intelligent, and can very goal-focused. They're definitely working dogs, despite their size!
