Greetings from Florence
Flatcoated Retriever, 7 years old
My favourite thing about Florence is...
Her all assuming love of people. She really believes that everyone is wonderful and only there, to make a fuss of her. She is shocked to find anyone who just walks on by.
The biggest challenge with Florence is...
Keeping all her toys neat. With three trugs full of them, and getting more every year, it is quite a collection. And she only wants the one she has chosen as the toy for today, which is burried at the bottom of one trug full of toys...So they all have to come out, to find, today's choice. It is so wonderful watching her digging through them all with her nose, to find the one she wants.
The most surprising thing about owning a Flatcoated Retriever is...
The length of time she spends walking on a river bottom, to select a stone to bring back to us. We are left shouting for her to surface! That she isn't a submarine! And without a care in World, she comes up for air and swims to the bank, in full view in crystal clear river water. It scares the H*** out of us I can tell you. Daft dog. But we love her and wouldn't change a bit of her.
What I wish I’d known about Flatcoated Retrievers is...
How MUCH they love the water! Without a rewind lead, she'd be in France I sometimes wonder. We've been trapped helpless on a beach for hours as she swam and swam up and down, in and out of the surf. Magic. Wonderful. Keeping just out of reach each time she came back to us, with a lolling tongue sticking out of the side of her mouth, looking as silly as she can!
