Say Hello to Scully
Flatcoated Retriever, 1 Year old
My favourite thing about Scully is...
Where do I start? He is a fun loving dog who just loves life! He tackles everything with so much exuberance and enthusiasm and makes me laugh all the time. Scully loves to “work”, whether it is agility and hoopers or gundog work and is a general allrounder. He is intelligent, funny, good-natured and confident yet very sensitive.
The biggest challenge with Scully is...
Getting him to chill. It does not matter how much you play, work and train with him, he is always ready for more after a brief Power Nap. He is also very people and dog loving so keeping his attention on me is often a challenge.
The most surprising thing about owning a Flatcoated Retriever is...
Nothing surprises me about a Flatcoat. They are beautiful dogs to look at, their zest for life is infectious and you need a sense of humour to live with them. They are more sensitive than other Retriever breeds and require patience, they can be clowns and slow to mature.
What I wish I’d known about Flatcoated Retrievers is...
Their health - and cancer in particular. Prospective new owners should do their research when looking for a puppy, find a reputable breeder that does all the relevant health testing and look into lineage.
Did you know?
Flatcoats are known amongst fans as the ‘Peter Pan’ breed due to their slow maturing, puppy-like behaviour that extends well into adulthood and even old age.
