Introducing Watson
Labrador Retriever, 9 years old
Watson is owned by Nicola, Purina's Head of Digital & CRM.
My favourite thing about Watson is...
When he puts both paws on your lap for a hug and licks your ear when you ask for a kiss. It just makes him so unique. In the main Labradors tend to have very similar personalities, but it's the little things like this that make me love him for his individuality.
The biggest challenge with Watson is...
Constant ear infections from mites and interdigital cysts. Labs have a tendency to claggy ears, particularly in the summer and it's really hard to get rid of.
The most surprising thing about owning a Labrador Retriever is...
How sulky Watson is! He will definitely let you know when you have upset him, and I was surprised to find that he didn't always want to wag his tail at me, will turn his back on me and even has selective hearing. But he has moved around the world with us so he's put up with a lot - I'll forgive him for having a moment!
What I wish I’d known about Labrador Retrievers is...
They are highly sensitive to changes in their routine and how much they remember when you have changed something. If you need to adapt him to a change in diet or walks you need to be prepared for your lab to let you know that he's upset with you.
Did you know
Originally Labrador Retrievers worked with fishermen and were bred to bring back fish-laden nets.
