Say Hello to Holly
Old English Sheepdog, 8 years old
My favourite thing about Holly is...
She is full of life and mischief she has a.very determined character, she is very loving and adores lots of attention from other humans who she makes contact with by leaning against their legs she runs and plays with other dogs which can be quite daunting to watch she totally relies on her sense of smell/hearing she has been my support dog for me after I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer
The biggest challenge with Holly is...
Holly is totally Blind and she kindly allows myself to be her guide person she is independent and is able to use her hearing and sense of smell to adapt to lives ever changing challenges she loves to be off the lead running around the fields she adores going in the car and it can be quite alarming watching her jumping into the car something she does insist on doing totally unaided she is my hero
The most surprising thing about owning a Old English Sheepdog is...
They are a very loyal love to be part of the family fantastic with children and are very intelligent they also love to sit on your sofa and if allowed sleep on your bed they are a very stubborn at times but hate it if you raise your.voice to them they have the most amazing eyes that they will communicate to you with they love to be praised and will become a constant companion
What I wish I’d known about Old English Sheepdogs is...
No one can explain the total loyalty of Old English Sheepdogs as a human you have to be aware they need regular grooming and trips to the groomer for haircuts they love to be with you 24hrs a day they will become your constant companion I have had the breed for nearly 40 years and wouldn’t have any other breed they are my heroes
Did you know
At one time the Old English Sheepdog was a status symbol within the American Industrial period and the five richest families in the world (the Vanderbilts, the Guggenheims, the Morgans, the Goulds and the Harrisons) all owned Old English Sheepdogs as did many of the film stars of the day.
