Say Hello to Teddy
Shih Tzu, 10 years old
My favourite thing about Teddy is...
His sense of humour and cheekiness. Generally he will not play with big dogs but if they are on a lead he will dance around and tease them. Teddy was my elderly father's companion and only moved in with me 18 months ago after my dad passed away. He has come on leaps and bounds in terms of confidence and now loves his walks and all his doggie friends.
The biggest challenge with Teddy is...
Getting him to eat - he is very fussy. The good thing about this is that he has remained slim but he is very picky about his foof and it has to be changed regularly. Purina is one of few brands he enjoys.
The most surprising thing about owning a Shih Tzu is...
How loyal and trusting he is although he is now almost 11 years old so not much surprises me these days :-) He adapted to living with me easily and has really taken to his new life.
What I wish I’d known about Shih Tzus is...
How much grooming he needs. Ted doesn't have many health problems but he is prone to eye ulcers. I've learnt to recognise the symptoms so I can treat it early.
Did you know?
Despite originating in China in the 17th century (or perhaps even earlier) the Shih Tzu dog breed was hidden from the West, and was largely unknown until the 20th century.
