Get to know Angelika
Swedish Vallhund, 7 years old
My favourite thing about Angelika is...
She has a tail that never stops wagging and loves to have lots of cuddles on the sofa. She loves her toys and carries them around proudly. She’s inquisitive and can open doors to find out what’s going on. Her favourite trick is to bark once at a new person to test them and see if they’re a dog person.
The biggest challenge with Angelika is...
Persuading her that she does not always have to be on the middle of everything as she hates being left out and feels this stops her from doing her job of ‘watching’ her humans .
The most surprising thing about owning a Swedish Vallhund is...
They are incredibly intelligent and will patiently work things out. They love children and love to keep the family together.
What I wish I’d known about Swedish Vallhunds is...
If you have friends or family walking the dog with you then make sure you warn them that as a herding dog a Vallhund will want you all walking together. Also if there are children playing they like to go and join in! The children love this but parents are not always so keen!
Did you know?
Vallhunds are so versatile, they have taken part in herding, agility, flyball, obedience, vermin control, search and rescue and have even been trained to sniff out valuable truffles.
