Yes we do. Additives can help maintain the quality of our pet food from the day it is made, up until its best before date. Additives can also be vitamins that help create complete and balanced food for your pets.
We use additives in pet food because they are needed to ensure that our products are complete, balanced and safe for our pets.
Pet food additives include vitamins, preservatives, enzymes, trace elements, and antioxidants that offer important functions such as micronutrient integration or conservation. Additives are divided into different categories:
- Nutritional: additives that support many vital functions in the body (e.g. vitamins).
- Technological: additives that; help maintain the food and its flavour, while keeping it safe over time (e.g. antioxidants).
- Sensory: additives are added to give the product the desired taste, colour and texture (e.g.colourants).
- Zootechnical feed additives - such as probiotics, which have a positive effect on the animal gut flora.
All additives used in our products are regulated and rigorously controlled in accordance with strict European laws – some of them can be found in food for human consumption. Their safety is completely proven and once they have passed safety tests, they are assigned an approval number, (e.g.3b412) for a period of 10 years. At the end of this ten-year period, each additive has to go through a renewal process.
